Role
Weegar was a seventh-round pick (206th overall) of Florida in 2013 and turned that into a long NHL career. Utah acquired him from Calgary in March 2026 for Olli Maatta, prospect Jonathan Castagna, and three 2026 second-round picks, according to The Hockey News. The same story lists his contract at $6.25 million a year, signed through at least 2030.
With Calgary in 2025-26 he had 21 points in 60 games and a minus-35. With Utah he had 7 points in 19 games and was a plus-2. This season he has 2 goals in seven games and averages 20:29. In the opener he led the team with seven hits and dropped the gloves with Chicago's Ryan Donato.
Outlook
Our take: the 2025-26 numbers in Calgary were one rough season, and we don't read them as his new baseline. The 2023-24 version, with 20 goals and 52 points in 82 games, is the ceiling, and he doesn't need to hit it for the Sergachev pairing to work.
We'll say 35 to 45 points, 20-plus minutes, and plenty of hits. It's a veteran role, and we think he fills it well.
