Role
Sergachev is our number-one defenseman. He is 6'3", 212 pounds, was the ninth pick in the 2016 draft by Montreal, and owns two Stanley Cups. Last season he put up 10 goals and 49 assists for 59 points in 78 games, a step up from the 53 points he had in 77 games in 2024-25.
He leads the blue line in ice time. He averages 22:19 so far this season, and he logged a team-high 22:57 in the 6-0 opener against Chicago. Through seven games he has 2 goals and 7 assists for 9 points, including one power-play goal and one shorthanded goal.
Outlook
Daily Faceoff expected him to start the year next to MacKenzie Weegar. Our take: this is the pair the whole defense is built around. Sergachev drives the offense from the back end, and Weegar is the partner who can cover for him when he jumps up.
Our take: 59 points was his best in a Utah sweater, and the 9 points in seven games say he can beat it. We'll say 55 to 65 points and more than 22 minutes a night, as long as he stays healthy.
